Our work in the community

Queen Mary University of London is committed to enhancing the lives of the people of east London and beyond, through our recruitment, teaching, research and public engagement activities.

From our origin as the People‚Äôs Palace in 1887, a community venue where people of the East End could enjoy dance classes, organ recitals, donkey shows and art exhibitions, as well as gain skills in various trades, to the Queen Mary we are today, we are proud to be an an anchor instution in east London and maintain a strong commitment to the communities around us.

Our local partnerships and collaborative projects with the community, charities and businesses focus on mutual benefit and the sharing of challenges and opportunities in one of the most diverse areas of the UK.
